OpenChanfix 2 week test period starting Wed 17 Nov 2004
Hello all, from Wed 17 Nov to Tue 30 Nov EFnet will be testing OpenChanfix. This means that you will not see CHANFIX entering your channel to fix it, but CHANFIX2. If all goes well, you won't notice any difference except for the nick. After these 2 weeks (or sooner if things go wrong), the old situa...

Getting unjustly K-lined by a server bot
Hey all, I was wondering about something. Many servers have lots of server bots which do automatic K-lining if they detect clones, drones, hacked boxes, whatever. Say you're chatting happily and suddenly your connection is closed by such a bot, with the reason "Drone infected" or something similar. ...

IM combination programs
I've recently discovered an interesting alternative to Trillian: bitlbee. This piece of software understands the most common IM protocols and runs as an ircd. You connect to it using your favourite IRC client, join the control channel automatically, and there all your buddies join too. Then you can ...

ipv6 servers
what do you mean "a few ipv6 servers"? to the best of my knowledge irc.ipv6.homelien.no is the only working ipv6 server on efnet. and its frequently down. is there some secret list of ipv6 servers that is being hidden from the public? i demand access to that list!! qeast and aloha used to accept ip...

Why do YOU use ipv6?
We have a few ipv6 servers, and some people using ipv6. I was wondering for what reason(s) people use ipv6 to connect to irc.
So, if you use ipv6 to connect to EFnet, or you would like to be able to, here's a simple question for you:
Why?

list of ipv6 servers
http://ipv6.dhcp.nu :) Nice list, updated and all :) Actually, this list is not correct, looking at the efnet section. There is currently 1 'open' ipv6 server, irc.ipv6.homelien.no. The two dutch servers, irc.efnet.nl and efnet.xs4all.nl, allow ipv6 to the lucky few that have an I: line before we s...

client war!
personally, I am not worried about keeping both hands on the keyboard. i only need to do that if i am constantly typing. But isn't that what IRC is all about? :P the sheer amount of text from oper related crap to 10 channels, all displayed in a way that it can be monitored, is the reason I use mirc...

GUI speed vs console speed
I've already addressed this issue in the fact not all servers provide wserv, thus no window'ing in console clients.. Eh, wserv? I've never heard of this. What does it have to do with whether my console IRC client can or can not create windows? My client (irssi) doesn't need anything from the server...

The flaw I find with console (no gui) based irc clients, is that they are too disorganized... Channel messages/private messages all appearing in the same screen, all after another... Atleast with mirc, they are organized into seperate containers, making chatting flow easier.. How long has it been s...

bitchx has this same info: [20:38][*@netmunky(+bfilsuwxyzo)] [#xxx(+nst)^^] [Act: 3,9,7,5,6,4] you can switch between them by hitting esc-3, esc-4, or you can /alias ws {window swap $0} this allows you to /ws 11 (since there is not 11 key) Most of the time, alt-<num> should work too. And irssi has ...
