Experimental Anycast ircd running on 193.138.96.9

Config is not suitable for production environment, this is only a proof of concept. If you like to test, feel free to connect to 193.138.96.9:6667. Due to experiments there is neither IPv6 nor SSL support.

Comments are welcome.

Re: IRC Server On Anycast Network

So I would give that a try. If EFnet admins are interested in results, I would share it. Test environment will be used as backend to a distributed webchat system, so load behaviour will be quite different in comparision to a IRC network like EFnet. Maybe backend will be opened to the public to check...

IRC Server On Anycast Network

Hello, is there any experience with operation of an IRC server on an anycast network. Anycast means several autonomous systems originate same /24 PI network from different servers. Result is every user will be connected to nearest server (nearest in BGP4 sense). ircds are connected by e.g. VPN, so t...

Re: EFnet RBL on public web based clients

my webchat uses now efnetrbl in intrusion prevention system, so undesired clients are blocked now. At this time it is an experiment. WWW users accesses webchat/EFnet gateway by http/IPv4 and gateway accesses EFnet server (xs4all) by IPv6. This xs4all server is nearest one, because there is no EFnet ...

EFnet RBL on public web based clients

Hello,

is it desirable to use EFnet RBL as filter for public web based irc clients which provides access to efnet servers ?

A web based clients may hide IP address from "real" user, so they may circumvent that blacklist. What is your optinion reagrding that

This will not solve this type of problems

If AS9121 is banned they will use IPs originated from other AS. Which country do you want to ban next ? Germany ? USA ? On the other hand, if server ops have access to bgp routing, they can blackhole all networks originated by a specific AS. Possibly uplink provider will do that job. That depends on...

best practise in Efnet (and other irc networks)

Hello, I would like to set up a small irc network, but it should match Efnets practises for server operation. My first question: Is there something like "best practise guide" how to set up a server to match Efnets requirements ? The Efnet application form gives some hints regarding what to care abou...
