IIRC, ev1.net is a known spamhouse (or houses some spam hosts). google knows what i'm talking about. it may be they are attempting to datamine your nameserver (get a list of all subdomains), and see if they can find any hosts with mail or finger or somesuch open, which they could possibly use to get...

Saving CPU in all honor but really, the server today on EFnet uses sub 2-3% of the CPU in average. true enough, but depending on the implementation of regexp, it can be a huge hit. can you imagine what would happen on a server with 10000 users if every connect/join was passed through a perl mod? (d...

it may also be possible that your IP is in the DNSBL (proxy blacklist used by many open proxy monitors on the network). visit http://www.blitzed.org/proxy to check if your ip is in the list. if it is, go through the steps to make sure you are not an open proxy, then click then link to remove yoursel...

regular expressions

^P[a-z]{2}[0-9]{3,4}$
would match strings that start with P, have 2 lower case letters, and end with 3-4 numbers

for once it would be nice to see a post from you that wasn't a flame. i never said xdcc channels are anarchy, i said they have lots of join/parts. most of the larger xdcc channels are +m so regular clients can't talk anyways. i was not saying you should allow bottler clients to be in the xdcc channe...

Re: bottler!!!

Tell me something, WHY should I spend 9 characters on my already limited-to-120-characters channel topic to give the name of a bot I don't want in my channel, at the view of everyone? just its name would be helping promoting it, which makes me wanna puke. the limited topic is another thread entirel...

Im beting its a one-line patch to remove that check. Secondly its not fault by the software. Its faulty by the users who run them. They should read the rules of the server first. Saidly i have no rule on my motd against there bots that "goes around collecting information". I havn't found a good exp...

most people i know use a website or newsbot to disperse news. that or most people don't care about the news. personally, i never use the topic for anything more than sharing 1 url (which there are dozens of webpages for shortening long urls, i wrote one of them myself), or pasting out of context quo...

then hope it gets put in to the motd or stop bitching about it. you are given a method for removal of the clients and you choose not to use it, how is this a fault of the software?

he said ratbox supports it, meaning it doesn't need a patch. that doesn't mean that option is compiled in by default. stop trolling

this is actually a hotly debated topic on the bottler forums

servers can keep newer (>=3.05) clients off by putting "no bottler clients please" in their motd
channels can keep them out by putting "-bottler" in the topic

just out of curiousity, is the \r at the end of most filenames something to do with your shell and/or copy/pasting? or is that actually part of the filenames?

if you use tab completion to complete the filename (ie "./ircd[tab]") does it come up with ./ircd\\r ?
