Efnet's CGI Webchat

Postby CometBaby » Mon Mar 12, 2007 6:45 am

I have noticed recently that the efnet webchat is no longer showing the identd of those who connect to it.

They are now all apearing as cgiirc@

Was wondering why that changed.

we used to put the hex of the users IP address in the ident, as that was the only way to identify individual users. however, since we started using m_webirc.so to show the user's real ip in the hostname, there is no need for the hex in the ident.

the universal ident was created for channel operators to easily identify webchat users, and is similar to what is done for irc.shoutcast.com webchat users (who all get an ident of 'shoutcast')
