Question about Proxies

Postby JustHavinFun » Fri Mar 10, 2006 12:06 am

Hi guys, I've posted in multiple areas so that I can get a more receptive response - Hope you don't mind.

My question is this - Does the LAN network I'm on determine the probability of whether or not a proxy will connect?

I find that when I'm at home, I can use proxies more readily than when I'm at University... They don't seem to work when I'm at uni ..

I get my proxies from SocksChain (It's a program that gets Socks 4 and 5 proxies)

There are two reasons for this
Either the proxies suck
Or it's the network I am on..

Any ideas? Thanks

It's odd - I loaded 4 clones on to a server.

It's FINDING the right proxy to use with an IRC client.... Trial and error... Unless anyone knows of a place with really reliable proxies? :)

I tried about 15 sock 5 proxies on a server that doesn't even scan proxies.

None worked.

Blahhhh any suggestions?

Out of curiosity, why don't you just connect to the IRC server directly? You would get a faster connection to the IRC server as well as be more secure (your information not passing through a 3rd party).

When you are at uni, can you not even connect to any proxies? Or can the proxies not connect to the IRC server? It's possible that your uni doesn't allow you to connect to proxies.

Also, the proxies you are talking about are almost always proxies that are left open unintentionally... you are, in fact, abusing someone else's computer system without them knowing it.

all efnet servers are required to run proxy scanners, and will kline you on connect if it is detected.

that being said, proxies are only needed when you are putting multiple people through one internet connection. if you want anonimity, run a legit irc bouncer on a shell. many open proxies are run by honeypots and the data is sniffed and collected. how's that for anonimity?
