If I am remembering right, I was on EFnet about 1997. Things were tough back then, staying online with all the packeting along with channel takeovers was a major task but, 'man O man' those were diffently hard days. Looking back it was quite a eye opening and learning experience.

I don't remember exactly, but I used AOL 2.5 to dial-in and logon. Pretty sure I was using Windows 95.. so that would be mid 90s?

Started in '93, not on any network, but on a non networked ircd.
I was ~ 10/11/12ish.

Also, all this time I didn't register on this forum :D

really define "old school"?

my first experience with IRC was 1994, on the undernet. Then I was on DALnet for a little bit. mIRC 4.5 16-bit on windows 3.1 with AOL 2.5/3.0.

I discovered the mad world of warez, mp3z, information security tools, and learned some miRC script. Later I learned to use linux and unix and with it BitchX and psybnc.

Then from around 1998, me a friend and some allies from DALnet ran our own small irc network. actively for around 5 years between 1998 and 2003, then it continued sporadic usage until its slow demise around 2008. We ran our own customized IRCD and services that was a branch off of twilight. Our main highlight was our ircd got featured on source forge for a while.(services had more intelligent akill, spam prevention and defesnive capabilities) We had reasonably active small network with a handful of active channels.

We never ventured on to EFnet Back then unless you where looking for warez or mp3s, cause before IP/hostname hiding, people would just ping flood your little dial up connection to oblivion with hacked shells, early cable modems, or whatever else they had and you didn't.

edit: then I stopped using IRC for a while, and I guess I'm back cause I miss IRC

Found IRC at the tail end of 1994 and got hooked. Just never left, but became a 'lurker' instead of an active participant.

How many exams did you fail on your way to ASA or FSA? Does everybody fail at least a few exams? Or do a good amount make it through with no problems?
