User areas

The staff of this site has talked some about a "user area" where perhaps he would get a username@users.efnet.info mail-adress and some webspace to host efnet related stuff, aswell as perhaps some sort of journal.

This is still somewhat just an idea yet and wount be implemented anytime soon, but its good to know if anyone has any reasonable ideas for what we could host and what would be neat to have on those pages.

Fire away your ideas!

Hey hardy,

Sounds like a great idea... probably going to be open to abuse though... hehe

I'm sure a kind of "channel" site would be good also... to host like stats or such...

I gave a few ideas to jafo when he said he was going to do a similar thing on efnet.net.

Check those out on the efnet.net forum...

Oh and as a kind of after thought maybe you could have user profiles instead of user ideas, a kind of ircnick.com type thing but for efnet users only. Just an idea.

any user email address would most likely simply be an email forwarding service.

something similar to ircnick.com is possible, but would be a good sized time commitment to do, so i wouldn't attempt it unless i knew more than 1 person would use it.

I'd use it, hence the suggestion ;)

I'm sure many others would... Its just an idea anyway...

Mail forwarding would be a bit poor, something like hm2k@users.efnet.info would be a bit useless unless you have some stupidly longer email address.
I doubt email forwarding would be used unless you were offering free webmail or free pop3 or something... I'd use that, another pop3 account is always useful :) if not perhaps it should be @efnet.info or maybe get a few hosts to choose from...

Also, as I have suggested before, a quotes section would be good, maybe an efnet exclusive version of bash.org though it might not work due to the fact that bash.org is already a very good service, but its still an idea.

RE: http://efnet.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=201
I was thinking, maybe you could get a bot to list all the efnet channels from a perticular service, then if there are more than 4 users within, allow users to sign up to it, to add like a link to the channel's web page, or email etc... or something similar, its an idea i was going to develop in the summer, you're welcome to borrow it

A server listing db would be good, wouldn't be that hard to create either, at least I would imagine so. qurves last one was good.

I have a couple of vanity domains if you fancy using them for your vanity web/email hosting thing... maybe you should do web forwarding, and/or A and AAAA records services or such like? just a thought...

Webmail and POP3 accounts could be possible, yet it would probably end up being too much trouble as it would be abused.
